Lived in Oxford almost two years now and just discovered this web site.
Great site.
Look forward to throwing a band together and becoming part of the Oxford Music Scene.
Players anyone.
Thanks

no neckbones? kudzu kings? mosquito bros? beanland? not honoring the past musicians? no fat possum fellas?
sean, a ‘past oxford bands’ page is not a bad idea at all, but that’s not what this page is. i will let you know if/when i get such a page up.
i think that the current music scene should be the focus! bands like rocket 88, aaron hall band, balance, and zoogma are holding the torch for the music here in oxford, and they should be given credit for keeping the scene new and vibrant. but we must pay homage to the old bands of yester-year of the “lil easy” too, like kudzu kings, cardinal fluff, enigma jazz project, neckbones and so on….but lets pay attention to whats going on now!
hey Charles, i agree, and i’m going to get a ‘past bands’ page up as soon as i can. that’s one i’ll definitely need to get feedback/suggestions on, and it will always be growing, i’m sure.
thanks,
Daniel
im sooo in love with that piano player in balance that looks like dave chappelle!! OMG, he is soooo awesome on the piano! all i wanna know is when i can see him play again? he oozes sex appeal when he plays!!
i agree with lisa, bill and balance are a treat to see live…i saw them perform at the grove last week. they put on a free show for everybody there…it was the coolest thing ive seen a band do here in oxford since ive been here….going on 6 months now. hope to see more of those guys, but i think the bass player may give bill a run for his money for sex appeal ;-p
after listening to some of the great oxford musicians ive heard and seen since ive lived here, 2 years in august, ive compiled a list of my personal favorites:
1.Cary Hudson (oxford’s best songwriter)
2.Bill Perry (oxford’s most exciting musician)
3.Tom Queyja (oxford’s most versatile musician)
4.Chris Steiner (best bluegrass player in oxford)
5.Aaron Hall (best cover songs in oxford)
6.Rosamond Posey (best female musician in oxford)
7.Dave Woolworth (oxford’s best bass player))
8.Jeff Callaway (oxford’a best horn player)
9.Nick B (oxford’s best DJ)
10.Tyler Keith (oxford’s craziest musician)
if you agree or like this list, please let me know!
johnny,
i am thrilled that you have chosen me as the best cover songs in oxford. There is one funny thing about this though, I am 23 years old and have been playing music in oxford for 13 months. In this time I have played 94 times. Most of my sets are two hours long and out of all these times I have played four cover songs.
I have played let it be twice at proud larrys
I have played help from my friends once at twostick, once at larrys, once at parrishs, and once at double decker.
I played into the mystic in the grove.
And I played holliday in spain once at parrishs during my first gig ever.
I have also played some cover tunes at the beatles tribute, of course everoned played cover songs.
I am in no way mad about your coments, I am always pleased to get any recognition and I will always play any cover for you that you like. Thank you so much for everything
sincerly,
aaron hall
I could learn a lot from Dave. I’m glad he’s on somebody’s list. He’s on mine.
looks like my little list has generated some interest! maybe you should consider posting my list up somewhere, i don’t care if people agree with me or not! you can post my name and email as a reference to this list if anyone inquires about who compiled it…oxford musicians should be honored this way…letting them know that we appreciate their tireless efforts to keep us entertained! and i’d like to thank aaron hall and dylan for replying to my list. btw dylan, aren’t you the bass player for balance? you are awesome too, sorry you didn’t make my list but you are one of my favs in oxford!
johnny i like your style baby, you sound like a cool guy hope to see you around-aaron hall
just wanted to add to the list of bands in oxford.
night lights myspace.com/gowhoopee
johnny, i agree with your list too but i think you left out a few oxford musicians worth mentioning. like guelel kumba who is probably the most worldly oxford musician. and how about laurie stiratt? if you know about cary hudson and blue mountain, you shouldve mention laurie because she’s an oxford music legend! i dont disagree with you johnny, i just wanted to add more names to your list
thanx brandi for reminding me about guelel kumba and laura stiratt. i didnt know i would get so much feedback from this list! im just a fan of oxford music, not a music critic. but glad to know my list has gotten all this attention from all of you!
you’re a brave s.o.b. johnny for posting a list of oxford musicians! i agree with you’re list 100%!!!!!!!
